Welcome to Sophie's Flashcards!

I'm Sophie, a newly graduated physician from the University of Ottawa and an Anki enthusiast!

I’ve been using flashcards and spaced repetition since I started undergrad. It has completely revolutionized the way that I learn and allowed me to manage my time more efficiently. I saw medical school as the perfect opportunity to develop a system that would not only allow me to study efficiently but benefit other medical students for years to come. And so, I give you, Sophie’s Flashcards; my decks for uOttawa medical students with over 25,000 flashcards (and more on the way)!

While many of you may have dabbled with flashcards in the past (using Quizlet, Brainscape, Osmosis, etc.), I highly recommend giving Anki a try if you have not already. There are many advantages to Anki, ranging from endless customization to a unique spaced repetition algorithm. Spaced repetition is an evidence-based method that has been shown to increase long-term memory and retention. Essentially, spaced repetition allows for newly introduced and more difficult flashcards to be shown more frequently, while older and less difficult flashcards are shown less frequently. Makes sense, right?

Anki is extremely powerful and customizable, allowing students to memorize information seemingly with no effort. However, many have stated that it is difficult to learn how to use (particularly those who do not often use computers to study), so I wanted to create this website as a means to help out!

There is a learning curve to Anki; be patient! It will take some time, but do not give up on it. Even if flashcards were “not your thing” in the past, the vast knowledge and sheer quantity of information that you will have to learn (and memorize) in medicine are astounding.

Anki will allow you to condense memorization for life if you simply put in a couple of hours to learn how it works!
Remember the
#1 rule of Anki: Study your cards every single day, and you will memorize wonders.

I truly hope you enjoy. I love teaching and mentoring, so if you have any questions that are not answered through this website, feel free to send me a message! Happy studying, friends!

Please note that these flashcards should only be used by uOttawa medical students as they contain lecture material, which cannot be shared beyond our cohorts and alumni. Moreover, these flashcards are extremely tailored to our curriculum, and are most definitely not the most useful if you are from another medical school. If you are from another medical school, I suggest using Anking.
